About Us

Scott McKirahan - owner of PaddleBoards.SurfI remember my first time trying a stand up paddle board while on vacation. I'm a big guy and was even bigger then - 6 foot 3 inches and 245 pounds. Needless to say, I wasn't exactly the essence of grace and balance. I struggled a lot because, unfortunately, they just don't make many SUPs large enough for giant novices like me and that was certainly the case with the rental I was using.

After I mastered standing on the board (that "only" took about a half hour), it took me another hour before I could paddle through the water without falling off the board. Admittedly it was quite the zigzag, awkward swath I was forging but I was doing it! Scared I would get too sunburned if I stayed out on the lake much longer, I called it a day.

Like most people who try paddleboarding for the first time, I can tell you that the next day, I had sore muscles in places I didn't even know I had muscles. It didn't matter; I was hooked! I was out there on the lake the next day and the day after that. Every day, I kept getting better and while you probably won't catch me shredding waves at New Smyrna beach anytime soon, I can hold my own on any flat body of water now.

I love stand up paddleboarding. It's great exercise and super fun. Although I'll never be a twig (sorry, I like pizza too much), I dropped 25 pounds over the summer just from using a SUP. I think I see a ripple trying to form on my stomach now, too!

It was a no-brainer; I had to set up a website that sold SUPs and help people who are new to the sport figure out the best stand up paddle board to get. As the owner of a company that builds websites, I decided to take control of PadddleBoards.Surf, myself. Paddleboarding is my passion now; I couldn't let someone else build this site!

One of my good friends who recently moved to the West Coast has caught the surfing bug. He said, "hey, can you add some surfboards to the site, too?" I said "why not?" He helped me a lot in figuring out what the important things were in surf board design (thanks, Kenny!). While he seems eager to try a SUP, I'm not all that sure I'll be hanging ten anytime in my life.

If you are new to the world of surfing or stand up paddleboards, hopefully this site will help you find the perfect SUP or surfboard. We've done everything we can to negotiate low prices from our manufacturers and pass the savings onto you. If you've got a question, please let us know. We'll do everything we can to get you up on a board and in the water so that you, too, can enjoy this incredibly fun activity!
